What is pws web server
Personal Web Server is a type of a Web server application from Microsoft that is designed for an individual PC and that enables the sharing of files and data to the network directly from the hard drive of the PC. It is a less-flashy version of Microsoft Web Server, which is a stronger information server. PWS can be used to support Web pages if it is attached to a continuous Internet connection.
It can also help websites to generate more traffic in an offline mode by staging websites before they are published globally. Personal Web Server can be implemented as a Web application, as an all-purpose Web server that can be personal or part of a small network, a website-hosting server working online or offline or simply a component of a computer. See figure 3 for this window. In the next window, you will specify how you want the server to determine which website to serve for Scripting Master's website. If you are not running more than one website on the same server, leave this as the default and click Next. If you are running more than one website on the same server, you can use host header value such as www. See figure 4. After you enter a host header value or selected an IP address or different port from that window, click "Next" to continue.
In the next window, you are asked for the website's home directory. The home directory simply refers to a folder that contains all of the files and folders images, webpages, etc. Browse to that home directory click "Next"; see figure 5 for this window. From either location, you can access configuration settings to customize and configure PWS for your needs. Microsoft Personal Web Server has little configuration requirements.
This makes it a good candidate to get up and running quickly so that we can concentrate on developing Java servlets. A directory called WebShare is created at the root of the C drive.
The Scripts directory is by default configured as an execute only directory, the Wwwroot is configured as read only and the Ftproot directory is configured for read and write access.
