Why thor is the best avenger
Thor 15 is in comic book stores now. Lead writer for Screen Rant's comic team. M screenrant. Share Share Tweet Email 0. Thor could match Hulk in the strength department, and bettered him in sheer power. The first time he fought Surtur, Thor went against a weakened version of the being. In Asgard, Thor once again basically beat Surtur by outsmarting him. Surtur was too stupid to realize the Asgard he was destroying was nothing but an abandoned rock, and ended up killing himself over nothing.
When you combine these cases, Thor comes out both as exceptionally strong and smart. This all-out power unleashing was a testament to the powers of Thor, as none of the other Avengers had inherent abilities like this. Thor summoned the biggest lightning blast in the history of creation onto Hela, and then proceeded to repeat these attacks to obliterate her army. Durability and strength are actually two different things, but durability can be even better when considering the magnitude of the occasion.
While en route to Nidavellir with Groot and Rocket, Thor causally joins in the Guardians' conversation, not at all phased by the customary "I am Groot. It isn't incredibly surprising that the God of Thunder can understand our favorite talking tree. Historically, Asgardians could understand and speak any tongue thanks to a special base language called the Allspeak check it out in Thor issue Instead, his explanation is that he studied it as an elective in school.
So while the rest of the Avengers had to settle for Spanish, Latin, or another earth-native language, Thor was learning how to conjugate "I am Groot. What a shame that the school was on the now-destroyed Asgard. Hopefully, there are others like it in the universe. Without even trying, Thor played a crucial role in bringing the different teams together.
Iron Man wasn't thrilled to work with Guardians even after he learned they had been with Thor, but the information did make it easier to trust them. Not bad, Thor. Not bad at all.
Thor didn't meet up with the Avengers until the end of Infinity War. When he finally crossed paths with them, it was the first time he'd seen most of them in years. The Odinson left earth at the end of Age of Ultron and hasn't had a chance to learn what transpired in his absence. How did the Avengers spend their time while Thor was away? They picked different sides of a controversy, fought at an airport, and stopped speaking to each other.
He hung out for a bit and then went looking for answers. Convinced that an unknown character was behind so many Infinity Stones appearing, Thor set off in search of clues and the remaining Infinity Stones. While he didn't find many clues unless we call running into Thanos finding a clue , he did manage to keep out of everyone's drama and is still on good terms with everyone.
The Civil War caused such a large rift between the Avengers that Iron Man didn't want to call Cap for help when Thanos threatened earth. Now that Thanos has the Infinity Gauntlet, the Avengers will be forced to work together again.
They're going to need as many heroes without a chip on their shoulder as they can get. In Avengers: Infinity War , we had a chance to see Thor's new weapon of choice in action.
In the words of Eitri the Dwarf King, Stormbreaker the battle-ax is "a weapon worthy of a king. Its metal was strong enough to withstand a blast from the Infinity Gauntlet and sharp enough to pierce Thanos' armor. There isn't any mention of whether or not someone needs to be worthy to wield Stormbreaker in the movie, although in Thor's case, it almost doesn't matter.
He proved himself worthy of Stormbreaker when he helped Eitri forge it. Reigniting the furnaces of Nidavellir was no small matter. Even after Thor got the machines up and running with nothing more than a small space pod, some rope, and brute strength, the forge's iris was damaged shut.
The only way to heat the metal was for Thor to hold the iris open, which exposed him to the full heat of the star. We're not sure which is more impressive: the fact that he helped created one of the MCU's most OP weapons, or fact that he could withstand a neutron start for several minutes.
In the entirety of Infinity War , our heroes only came close to defeating Thanos twice. The first time was the group effort on Titan. It took the combined powers of Iron Man, Spider-man, Dr. Strange, Draw, Rocket, Mantis, and Nebula just to get Thanos into a position where they could almost remove the Infinity Gauntlet from his hand. Before they even launched their attack, Dr. Strange had to look into the future 14,, times just to see if it was possible to beat Thanos.
Unfortunately for half the universe, Thanos managed to free himself before they could remove the Gauntlet thanks a lot, Star-Lord. The only other time anyone came close to stopping Thanos was when Thor attacked him in Wakanda. Now, our buddy Thor has been through a lot. For the most part, he handles these tragedies with great resilience. But as we shall see, all this eventually takes a toll.
In our work at Driven, we help people understand themselves across six domains of resilience, each containing various skills. Resilience domain: Collaboration. Initially, Thor comes across as being fairly arrogant and self-aggrandising.
He becomes a genuinely nice guy to be around. This is such an important characteristic of Thor that really helped set him apart from Avengers. Take Stark or Strange, who are both quite alienating when it comes to other people. Their own egos make it hard for them to really connect with anyone. Romanoff, Banner and others are often quite awkward. In terms of resilience, having the willingness to build deep relationships with people who you can support and can support you as well is very important.
Especially in our age now where technology seems to be isolating us more and more. No-one is super social from the start. Resilience domain: Health. This means that your health is not the primary goal, but rather a means for you to achieve your goal. That means working out a lot and downing those godly protein shakes is super important for him.
Though from what we saw, he does like drinking quite a bit, which is not quite the healthiest thing in the world. Eventually in Endgame we would see how this can quickly spiral out of control as the trauma takes its toll. More on that later. Resilience domain: Tenacity.
Thor is a persistent fellow. Even though he got beaten by Thanos, Thor learns from what happens and figures out a way to try again so he can win the next time.
Persistence is actually more important than intelligence in reaching eventual success. Being able to bounce back from adversity is how we often think about resilience, which is why we consider it in the domain of Tenacity. This is how we keep ourselves motivated to try and try again, with Thor showing a great ability to not just persist, but also do it with a sense of humour and excitement of the challenge.
I think this is something that sets him apart from other heroes — having a sense of excitement to keep trying until he eventually wins. Interestingly, we see from research that persistence is actually more important than intelligence in reaching eventual success. Later on in Ragnarok, we also see Thor develop what we call realistic optimism.
In particular, we see Thor being hopeful in bringing Loki along on the mission, but also planning ahead just in case Loki is up to his usual tricks again, which of course, he was. Persistence is a fairly common quality in our heroes. We want to see someone facing unbelievable odds, yet still keep going regardless and win in the end. It gives us hope, allowing us to take a bit of that inspiration into our own personality, helping us face whatever challenges lie in our path.
