They must be up to about a billion believers by now. This makes Christianity one of the major religions. Blind faith seems to lead others to snarky cynicism. I think it is because the faith only works by being closed to questioning. It appears from your thought here that you are stereotyping all people of faith and how they approach it by your perception or experience of a very small subset. And that sounds like the very same rejection you seem to think all people of faith must engage it.
It comes across as curiously incorrect circular logic. The questions are there. I think the mistake is the Bible. Not all Christians allow the Bible to be an idol. Which kind of gets me back to my point; there are at least several Christianities being practiced by people of faith today.
And lumping them all into one massive group misses very real distinctions. Can that question even be answered? It seems like now that the faults in the Bible are coming out, Christianity is becoming a compromise religion. And now? What is Christianity? So is there any other answer? I guess it is just a religion, and if you try to say what it is, it disappears into the attempt.
Anything beyond that? Is just dross and probably needs to be filtered as you think for yourself. So it is just live your life as best as you can. I think in general those who are serious about living live as a secular humanist are also living life as best as they can.
So the world is dividing into two parts. Then you have the new age Christians and secularists who are living life as best as they can. Everyone knows what conservative Christianity is. They believe all the beliefs, heaven and hell, the trinity, belief in the name of Jesus gets you into heaven, and maybe the rapture. I have been trying to find out what progressive Christianity is. Now I think some people are finally starting to see, it is a religion in the process of changing from what it was in the past, to what it will be, which is maybe none of the beliefs are true, and it is becoming like secular humanism.
What motivated the development of this story? What was the adaptive advantage? Of this story? Any religion? Chucking religion? It started like any other religion of that day with standard miracle stories. Then through the luck of the draw, it merged with the political power of the day, and that switched it into high gear. Hence the work of deconstructing a text is an act of the art of criticism, not an application of any science.
